For HOAs and neighborhood groups
Every neighbor, one conversation.
The board posts in Discord. Half the street will never install it. Crossline lets those neighbors follow the channel by text and reply from their phone, so a water shutoff, a gate code, or a lost dog reaches everyone once, with no second list to keep up.
Free to start. Texting plans are priced by how many neighbors follow by text, with a monthly pool of texts included. Pay as you go is $2 a month plus 3 cents a text.
One post reaches the whole street
Most neighborhoods end up with a Discord server for the people who like it, a group text for the people who don't, an email list, and a flyer at the mailboxes. Crossline makes the channel the one place to post.
Post once
A board member posts in the channel. Neighbors on Discord read it there. Neighbors who text get it in one digest text a day, under the poster's name, or as it's posted if you set the channel to live. Nobody copies it into a second group.
Neighbors reply
A text from a neighbor posts in the channel under their name, marked (text), and reaches the other phones. A question about the gate code gets answered once, where everyone can see it.
Residents only, if you want
Set the channel to approve each JOIN, so a request from someone who is not a resident waits for a board member. Put the QR code from /crossline share on the newsletter or the mailbox kiosk.
Meeting reminders that get read
Board meetings, cleanup days, the annual gathering. Post the event once and neighbors get a text before it starts, so the quorum shows up without a flyer or a phone tree.
Announced, then reminded
A board member creates the event with /crossline event create. Neighbors who text see it in their next digest. Anyone who replies REMIND gets a text an hour before, or the morning of, and in a live channel everyone does. YES or NO by text gives you a head count.
Monthly meetings, set once
Repeat an event monthly by weekday or date, such as the second Tuesday. When one month is skipped, the phones are told and the next date is named.
Moved or canceled, everyone knows
A new room or a new time goes out by text to everyone who was told. A virtual meeting reminder carries a tap-to-call number for neighbors who dial in.
Built for consent
Carriers are strict about who may be texted, and so is Crossline. Nobody is enrolled by the board, and every neighbor holds the off switch.
The full text messaging terms, the keywords, and the opt-in flow word for word are at crossline.stream/sms and crossline.stream/keywords.
How it works
A board member connects one Discord channel. Neighbors who want texts send JOIN themselves. There is no app to download and nothing to install on anyone's phone.
If you're on the board
- Add the Crossline bot to your association's Discord server. A server is free to create if you don't have one.
- Run
/crossline connectin the announcements channel. Crossline pins a note with the number and how many people follow by text. - Run
/crossline shareand put the number, the link, or the QR code in the newsletter, the welcome packet, or the mailbox kiosk. - Optional:
/crossline settings joins: approvalfor residents only, and/crossline settings relay: roleso only the board's posts are texted.
If you're a neighbor
- Text
JOINto the number on the flyer, or scan the QR code. - Reply with the name you want people to see. Your number is never shown.
- Announcements arrive as texts. Reply to any of them to post in the channel.
- Text
STOPany time, orPAUSEwhile you're away.
If a committee chats elsewhere
- A board member makes a bridge code with
/crossline bridge create. - A Telegram group adds
@crosslinesms_botand runs/crossline joinwith the code. A channel on another Discord server runs/crossline bridge join, and so does a Slack channel once an admin has installed Crossline from api.crossline.stream/slack/install. - Posts in the group reach the channel and the phones, and theirs reach the group.
/crossline bridge leaveon Discord or Slack, or/crossline leavein a Telegram group, ends it. Starting from Telegram or Slack without Discord is coming.
Questions from boards
Can an HOA send text alerts to residents?
Yes, to the residents who ask for them. With Crossline, a resident texts JOIN to the association's number from their own phone, and from then on every message posted in the connected channel reaches them as a text. The board cannot add a number, upload a list, or send the first text. That is what carriers require, and it is why the texts get delivered.
Do residents need Discord?
No. A neighbor who follows by text never opens Discord. They read announcements as ordinary texts and reply to any of them to post in the channel. Only the board needs a Discord server, and a server is free.
Can residents reply?
Yes. A reply from a phone posts in the channel under the name the neighbor chose, marked (text), and reaches the other neighbors following by text. If you want only the board's posts texted, set a relay role: everyone else's Discord messages stay in the channel, and replies from neighbors still post there. To keep replies private, make it an announcements channel with /crossline settings kind: announcements: replies from phones then go only to the board, by DM or in a room you pick.
Will residents see each other's phone numbers?
No. Every message shows under the name the person chose. Board members with Manage Server see a short code beside each name, enough to tell two Walts apart, and no digit of anyone's number. Numbers are never shared or sold.
How do we keep non-residents out?
Run /crossline settings joins: approval. A JOIN then asks to follow, and a board member approves or declines each request from Discord. /crossline phones remove takes someone off at any time, and they get one courtesy text saying so.
Is Crossline a mass texting service?
No. Crossline relays a conversation. There are no marketing blasts and no imported contacts. Every text a neighbor gets is a message someone posted in the channel that neighbor chose to follow, or an event reminder from the board, and every neighbor can leave with STOP.
What does it cost an HOA?
Connecting a channel is free to start. Texting is a paid plan for the association, priced by how many neighbors follow by text, with a monthly pool of texts included, or pay as you go at $2 a month plus 3 cents a text. Neighbors never pay Crossline, though their carrier's message and data rates may apply. Texting starts with a free 7-day trial. It needs a card on file, and nothing is charged unless you pick a plan.
Does it work with Telegram, Slack, or a second Discord server?
Yes. A Telegram group, say the pool committee's, joins the same conversation with a bridge code from /crossline bridge create, and so does a Slack channel or a channel on another Discord server. Posts in any of them reach the channel and the phones, and replies land back where they started. Starting from a Telegram group or Slack channel without Discord is coming.
